We finally had some weather that didn't require layered clothing, electric blankets and a bonfire today. I woke up and walked the beach which I was long overdue for. It was still about 70 degrees with a breeze but that was welcomed walking weather with my sweatshirt on. I caught the tale end of the Full Moon going down then saw a White Heron stalking his breakfast as I headed back towards the house. It was a nice way to start a day.
You have to look between the normal Airport lights to see the Full Moon in the picture below. Then again behind the Palm Tree.
I finished my walk and made a great Smoothie for breakfast. Sometimes I think I just like being able to say "I drank my breakfast" and not feel guilty but I put my Vitamix to work creating deliciousness that is also good for me. A very ripe banana and yogurt is the key ingredient to mask the taste of the spinach, kale, chia seeds, flax seed, protein powder, almond milk and a few things I can't pronounce. Normally I drink my breakfast sitting by the pool but it was still too cold for that. I sat inside and watched the morning news with Kitty under a blanket. After breakfast I spent a few hours doing boring paperwork and computer work. Not fun but it is a necessary evil.
Then came the fun part, lunch. I had to go to the Post Office so as long as i was downtown I went over to the Key West Bight, or Historic Seaport as the Chamber of Commerce calls it, and had lunch at Half Shell Raw Bar. Excellent food sitting on the Marina watching the boats pass by. Half Shell is somewhat of a Key West landmark originally opened by Paul Trip who pretty much built the Key West Bight when he build A&B Marina.
The rest of the day was spent updating my contacts database, cleaning out old computer files, organizing my home office then taking an on line Real Estate Class that we are required to do every year. I'm sure you don't find that overly interesting but even in Key West, not every day is beaches, bars, boats and suntanning. That dirty four letter word "WORK" gets in the way once in a while. I tried to keep it positive and reminded myself I didn't have to warm my car up for 20 minutes before driving anywhere, I didn't have to shovel snow, I didn't slip on the ice and a day working in Key West beats the Hell out of a day of leisure in Detroit.
I was at a stopping point just before 5:00 and decided t call it a day. I went out to the mailbox to get my mail and saw another White Heron searching for food on the sidewalk and in my bushes. They are such beautiful birds and very graceful. He stood there still as can be until something caught his eye in the bush. In a split second he jabbed his beak in the into the leaves and flew off with dinner in his mouth.
That reminded me it was getting close to dinnertime for me as well. I did the unheard of and cooked at home tonight. I just didn't feel like going out. I do cook at home once in a while. I had some Jamaican Jerk Rub that a friend brought me from Havana of all places that I have been wanting to try and I'm glad I did. I made Jerk Pork Chops on the grill with some brown rice and black beans. I felt like I was in The Islands. Oh, wait, I do live in The Islands so dinner was geographically appropriate and quite good I might add. Didn't do a whole lot after dinner but I had a productive day. Most importantly, I had fun. That was my Day in Key West.
Until Tomorrow,
