Started the day off walking the beach watching the sun come up. I usually walk from my house along the water to the airport, turn the loop inside the grounds of the airport and along the water back home again. My regular walk is 3.1 miles. Today was a cloudy morning and a bit cooler than usual so I went a little further. I was just under 5 miles by the time I got home. Exercising is a lot easier with a beautiful ocean view.
I got home from my walk and gt ready for the work day after drinking about half a gallon of water. Among my first things on my "To Do List" was to call Moped Hospital to check on my Scooter which is there being serviced. It had been a couple weeks waiting on a part so I decided to check in with them. I have to give them huge praise as a Local Family Rum Business who really went the extra mile today. They told me the part was still back ordered between the Holidays and now the change of the year and everyone balancing their books. The General Manager told me to come in and he gave me a loaner Scooter for free but also told me whenever it needs gas to just come in, tell the agent on duty he told me to come in and they will fill it for free. He told me he hopes to have the part in and my Scooter fixed in less than a week but the loaner is mine as long as I need it. This is the second Scooter I have bought from them and today they surely earned my business for life. I like to publicly praise a business that takes good care of those of us who live in Key West and today Moped Hospital did just that.
After getting my Scooter and it being a beautiful day outside I decided to drive it around to my work appointments. Northerners eat your heart out, it was in the mid 80's all day. My first stop was to preview a house on Caroline Street. If any of you are Jimmy Buffett fans the house I looked at was the house in his song "Woman Gone Crazy on Caroline Street". Although I don't think this property will work for the person I previewed it for I'm glad I saw it. It is a very unique house and quite a nice house too. I have a couple other buyers I think it might fit well.
By now it was lunch time. I was liking being outside so much I went to B.O.'s Fish Wagon also on Caroline Street. B.O.'s is a Key West Icon. It has been around for decades, all outdoor seating with chickens running around, has excellent food, great service and is very reasonably priced. One of my Tenants has worked there for about 10 years. If you drove by you would think it was a junk yard but it is an excellent restaurant with many loyal followers. I'm one of them.
Lunch was done and I headed home to work from my poolside office. If I have to do boring administrative work I might as well do it getting a suntan with my feet in the pool. Not all of us choose to live in subzero temperatures with snow on the ground. I put in a couple hours on the computer working away when my phone rang. A friend called telling me a few people were going out to watch sunset on his sailboat and asked me if I wanted to join them. I had been doing tedious book work for hours at this point so the decision wasn't hard. I shut down the computer and jumped on my Scooter and headed downtown to Conch Harbor Marina where the boat is docked.
We didn't sail far but had a lot of fun. We mostly just stayed right in Key West Harbor where all the Commercial/Tourist Sunset Sails go. We sailed past Mallory Square watching the crowd gather for the nightly Sunset Festival which is one of the more popular things to do in Key West. Continued down past the Truman Waterfront then past Fort Zach Taylor. By then the sun was starting to go down so we did a 180 degree turn around and started to sail towards Sunset Key. Before we knew it the sun was gone and the sky was a beautiful bright orange. We sailed around the other side of Sunset Key and back to the Marina. What a great night on the water. Another one of the millions of reasons I love living in Key West.
Once back at the dock we walked up to Half Shell Raw Bar and had a quick dinner looking out at the Key West Bight watching boats come in and tourists walk past. I was tired so I didn't stay long. What many people call Paradise I call home. That was another Day in Key West.
Until Tomorrow,
Gary
