Yesterday was a pretty routine day in the life of a Key Wester. Woke up at 6:00 AM and went for my walk along the water. I do just over 3 miles every other day. It is a nice way to start a morning off and I fit in a little exercise too. I watch the sun come up and see the boats heading out for the day. Usually catch the Cruise Ships coming in bringing us thousands of happy (some not so happy) tourists. Sometimes we love our tourists, sometimes not so much but without them we would all be unemployed.
Once home from my wake up walk and showered it was time to face the world. The dirtiest "4 Letter Word" in Key West is work. All kidding aside, I love my job. I help people move to Paradise. I am a Real Estate Agent. My morning was spent doing computer work, finding comparables for a past client who is looking to sell his home. Not as boring as it sounds though. I was working from home with my feet in the pool. A little after noon I drove some other clients, who have become good friends, to the airport which is a pretty drive. If you look at the photo above of my walk I walked from my house to the airport and back. That was the same view I had for my drive. After that I went to Goldman's Deli, a local favorite, for lunch then back to the tough working conditions of my pool while all those lucky people up north are shoveling snow.
After work I went to dinner at Duffy's which is, in my opinion, the best we have downtown as far as what you get for what you pay. Those of us who live in Key West don't eat downtown often but right now it is the slowest time of year so I take advantage of our island being "Our Island". Normally we go to the places we don't tell the tourists about. Duffy's though is one of my favorites. Great food, excellent service, very reasonably priced, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
After dinner I drove around town looking at the Christmas Lights. Every year Historic Tours of America, "The Conch Train", has their Christmas Lights ride for the month of December. They facilitate a decorating contest and give Conch Train Tours looking at the lights. The passengers vote on the best decorated houses. First place house gets $10,000, Second place is $5,000 and third is $2,500. It is a pretty fierce competition and a lot of fun.
That my friends is "A Day in Key West". Until tomorrow,
